In Ahmedabad, during an IPL 2024 match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), GT captain Shubman Gill was fined Rs 24 lakh for a slow over rate violation. This marked GT’s second such offense of the season, leading to fines for the rest of the playing 11 as well, with each member fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lower. GT’s victory over CSK by 35 runs kept their IPL hopes alive.
Gill and B Sai Sudharsan both scored centuries in GT’s total of 231 for three, followed by CSK’s 196 for eight.
Despite the win, GT stands eighth on the points table with 10 points from 12 matches, while CSK remains in fourth place with 12 points from as many games.
Gill, who scored 104 off 55 balls, highlighted the missed opportunity to score higher, aiming for a total closer to 260. He also mentioned the need to improve their net run rate for playoff qualification.
During CSK’s chase, Gill left the field early due to cramps, with Rahul Tewatia leading the side in his absence.
Gill praised his partnership with Sudharsan, emphasizing their understanding and execution on the field, resulting in a significant opening stand for GT.
